tonight we improvise

I was feeling sort of trapped in my head earlier today, so I thought I'd mix it up a little by opening the floor to suggestions for future haiku topics. Leave them in the comments to this entry and I'll see if I can 17-syllable them.

But the beauty of your work is that it comes from your head, so you have to be trapped there. However, other than political things that have invaded my head, here's what I've been thinking of: the days are growing shorter, the tomatoes that just don't seem to want to ripen, the fruitless struggle of weeding. Because I've been working on a quilt and on a coffee table at the same time, the miracle of taking raw materials and turning them into useful, beautiful things. The need to be alone vs. the need to not be alone. And TiVo...beautiful, wonderful TiVo.

I'm afraid that none of those topics is taking me outside of my head, except for TiVo, because I don't have all that fancy new-fangled technology.

Howard the duck and stomach flu. The golden swan atop the store on Newbury or Boylston. Turducken.

Those are themes for an epic! Hmmm. They also are not taking me out of my head, though it is to an earlier manifestation of my head.

If Howard the Duck doesn't take you out of your head, there's no possible exit.

So now who is depressing whom?
