I'm not really familiar with him outside of this painting, so I should look him up. Victorian painting goes in and out of fashion but I think at this point there's no need to hide your admiration of at least some of it!
Lots of Grimshaw on Google Images. His work is atmospheric and vaguely haunted. What I cannot tell is whether he is the (gag) Thomas Kinkade of his time.
His work seems, based on my cursory knowledge, higher quality (less sentimental, less automatic) than Kinkade's. Fairy paintings were popular with the Victorians but there is something eerie and unsettling rather than cozy about them.

I agree! They're really not cozy. Donna could see what I meant, though.
