the water's bright edge
a boy dips his finger in
the surface ripples

Maybe I have the Aurora massacre on my mind, but your haiku has a God-like quality today. It reminds me of another lovely, but devastating poem, James Merrill's A Downward Look.

Thank you. This was one of those cases where I saw something that was very literal and worked on the phrasing until I made it (I hoped) more suggestive, though I wasn't making the specific connection you were. I'll have to look up the Merrill poem.
