Beautiful. It reminds of an earlier one you wrote, one that brought Brautigan to mind in the best way.
Thank you! This is one of my favorites, and I wondered if anyone else liked it.I was killing time at a bookstore (there are still a few left!) on my way to a concert Monday night, and I was leafing through the Selected Poems of Jorge Luis Borges, and I came across "To a Minor Poet of the Greek Anthology" and that's where this comes from.I tried to find an on-line version to link to and couldn't, but I think it's worth seeking out.
I found it, and I can see how it would inspire. http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Jorge_Luis_BorgesThis poem actually changes how I think about Borges. I've read his fiction before, but not his poetry. Thank you!
Ah, thanks for the link. I bought that three-volume Borges set that was released several years ago, and of course it's been sitting waiting ever since, but I too have read more of his fiction than his poetry, and not enough of either.
