What I like about the second one is how varied the interpretations can be: it might be running into a former love, it might just be a sign of aging (or of an overabundance of life experience).

I love the second one and how it's not clear if you were looking right at the person or trying to conjure him/her up in your mind. Or maybe neither?
I love the poignancy and surprise of the second one. It made me reach for "Loading Mercury with a Pitchfork," my favorite Brautigan.
