I did have a lovely Fourth, on the Coast Starlight Amtrak train from Santa Barbara to Oakland. Didn't have to deal with the dumbasses and explosions until I got into San Francisco about 10PM where everyone seemed to be falling down drunk in public.

And may I just add, since it is one of my hobbyhorses, that one of the great things about live performance is that people have to put away their little screens; it's a refuge in our increasingly screen-ridden world; so I find it appalling and foolish when organizations throw that advantage away and insist on "live tweeting" etc.
